Dr. Dowling has consulted to many organizations in communication skills, management development, and organizational development. She is a nationally recognized expert on training design and delivery and an internationally known speaker and trainer. She is the author of The Standup Trainer and co-author of Presenting with Style: Advanced Strategies for Superior Presentations. Her most recent book, co-authored with Deborah Grayson Riegel, is Tips of the Tongue: The Nonnative English Speaker’s Guide to Mastering Public Speaking.
Dr. Dowling received her PhD (in English Language and Literature) from the University of New Mexico and is a former Assistant Professor at Texas A&M University and a former adjunct instructor for the University of New Mexico’s Training and Development in Instructional Technology (TDIT) certificate program, where she taught Presentation Skills for Trainers. She founded the consulting and training firm, Dowling & Associates, Inc., in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 2000. Her clients in the United States include Honeywell, Inc.; Intel Corporation; General Mills; Public Service Company of New Mexico; Lovelace Health Plan; Security First Technologies; Alltel; Jacobs Engineering Group; Sandia National Laboratories; the State of New Mexico; the City of Albuquerque; and Bernalillo County Government. Her clients in China include Pfizer; the State Food and Drug Administration; and the National Development and Reform Commission.
From 2006 to 2014, Dr. Dowling was a visiting professor in the Beijing International MBA Program at Peking University, where she taught “Report Writing and Presentation Skills” to international MBA candidates. (She shares many of her many amazing experiences in China in the Tips of the Tongue book and in her China Diaries.) She has been studying Chinese for several years now and hopes to someday be able to communicate in Chinese at the level of a three-year-old child.
In her spare time she is president and newsletter editor for The Irish-American Society of New Mexico.
